GALA DINNER 12 NOVEMBER BOOK NOW TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT LIMITED SEATS AVAILABLE

     SUNDAY 6 – SUNDAY 13 NOVEMBER 2005

DURBAN SOUTH AFRICA

Our once small community of Rhodesians-Zimbabweans have now spread throughout the world, and one of the greatest challenges facing the various Rhodesian-Zimbabwean Associations is how to keep our global community together.

To achieve this we are committed to the following aims and activities:

- to assist globally those Rhodesians-Zimbabweans who are less fortunate and in need;

- to preserve our heritage, our history and memorabilia for the world to see; and

- to arrange for Rhodesians-Zimbabweans to continue meeting each other socially.

To do this, several associations in Durban, RSA, namely, the Rhodesia Association of South Africa (Durban Branch) (incorporated in The Flame Lily Foundation); the Rhodesian Army Association (Natal); the Rhodesian Air Force Association, and the BSAP Regimental Association ( Natal ), have combined to form an alliance called the ‘ Shamwari Trust'. The Trust is working towards achieving the above aims with a ‘Worldwide Reunion' of all Rhodesians and Zimbabweans in November 2005 being one of the projects.

The Shamwari Trust saw the need for a gathering of all Rhodesian-Zimbabweans and their associations, so it is planned that Durban would host the worldwide event, as we are able to offer reasonable terms of travel, accommodation and other tourist facilities to our overseas and local visitors. All Rhodesians - Zimbabweans are invited to attend this reunion.

The "Friendship Week" reunion will be held in Durban from the 6th to 13th November 2005. The concept of the reunion is to give every one time to meet and catch up with friends during the week in an informal setting with the only formal social event being the Gala Dinner to be held at the International Conference centre, on the 12th November.

The reunion will start with an opening function commencing at 11.h00 on Sunday the 6th November with the majority of functions being held at the German / Shamwari Club, 7 Barham Rd, Westville. Durban.

The Club is centrally situated near the N2/3 interchange off the M13 freeway and is easy access from regions of Durban. Every day there will be inexpensive activities at the club where friends can meet and spend time quality time together over a meal and drink.

The week will build up to a John Edmond evening on Wednesday 9th, a sporting day on Thursday and a large informal gathering on Friday where schools, forces, friends meet for the day and the party theme will be "Come as you were".

The Remembrance Parade and Gala dinner will be held on Saturday morning and evening respectively. The closing ceremony for the reunion will be held on Sunday 13th, where friends can meet for the last day.

The flags will be lowered at 17h00

We will acknowledge all Rhodesian-Zimbabwean prominent personalities and sportsmen and women. During the course of the week, golf and other sporting functions will also be arranged to cater for everyone wishing to participate.

Subject to demand there will be transport from Umhlanga Rocks/Durban North, Toti, Pietermaritzburg and Hillcrest to the Club and ICC dinner to avoid the problem of drinking and driving. Bookings for all the events and transport can be done on the registration form and the Programme of Events Calender( which will be udated continuously, so keep reading on this site).

Please complete the attached questionnaire as soon as possible and have it back to us post haste.

The weeks events are designed to be inexpensive where people can meet others and spend time togther over a drink and aninexpensive meal. Many people prefer not to drive at night and because of this a number of day time activities are being organised as well as those at night.

The proposed Package Tours will be for two weeks: those attending the Reunion can spend the first week at the reunion and the second week on holiday in South Africa and/or Zimbabwe. Trips to various holiday destinations in the second week will be dependent on the demand for destinations such as Victoria Falls, Kariba and other places of interest. Please view the tours and excursions page for local options.

This Reunion will focus on a lifetime of old memories where friends will meet, perhaps for the last time, to celebrate great friendships made in the wonderful country loved by us all. We need everyone's support to make this a special, memorable Grand Event!

Further information will be distributed, as it becomes available. In order to gauge your support, you are asked to URGENTLY contact Rob Bristow on email weapont@mweb.co.za ; Fax +27 (0)31-2671542; Tel +27 (0)31-2660836.
